About this forum
Offroad SUV Forum opened in November 2025 for people with a four wheel drive SUV who would rather read a straight answer from somebody who has broken the same part than a paid top ten list.
The rigs here are the 4Runner, Wrangler Unlimited, Bronco, Grand Cherokee, Defender, GX460 and the rest of the body on frame and unibody 4x4s that people take to forest roads, snow and slickrock. Stock rigs on factory tires get the same answers as built ones on 35s.
It is run by Hank S., who posts as mod_hank_s. Hank ran a road grader for the Forest Service on the Black Hills National Forest for 26 years, which means he has graded a lot of the gravel people drive to get to the trails, and pulled a few rigs out of the ditch next to it. He retired in 2024, lives in Rapid City, and drives a 2009 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon on 33s with a Warn winch he has used on other people far more than on himself. He reads the contact mailbox himself, slower during elk season.
What it costs and who pays
The server and the domain together are about fifteen dollars a month and Hank pays them. There is no advertising, no affiliate link and no paid thread anywhere on the site. Nobody gets a better spot in a thread for money. If any of that changes it will be written on this page first.
House rules
- First line of a question: year, model, trim, lift and tire size. A stock 2022 4Runner SR5 and a lifted TRD Pro on 33s are different rigs.
- Know your recovery points. Tie down loops are not recovery points. Say what you have when you ask about straps and winches (added at trail_leader_nate's request).
- Buying threads include what you paid. A mod will ask for the numbers if they are missing.
- No selling inside threads. There is no classifieds board, on purpose.
- If you work for a dealer, a lender, a shop or a parts company, say so when it comes up.
- No directions to trails that are closed, private or illegal to drive. Stay on what the Motor Vehicle Use Map shows as open.
- Be civil. Jeep, Toyota, Ford and Land Rover people share four pages and nobody is converting anybody.
- Accounts are by email request until the bots give up.
What this is not
Not a dealer, not a broker, not a shop and not a factory service manual. When a member gives you a torque spec, a tire pressure or a permit rule, check it against your own manual or the state agency before you rely on it.
