after reading ben's 4Runner thread i figured i owed the board my own numbers. different rig, different corner of the country.

i am a lineman for an electric co-op, so winter is storm season and i drive a lot of unplowed back roads at 2 am. my old Forester had more rust than metal underneath. i wanted a Bronco since they came out and the dealer markups in 2021 made me laugh and walk out.

found it on Conaway's Auto Sales in october: 2022 Bronco Badlands four door, 2.7 EcoBoost, 10 speed auto, hardtop, 27,900 miles, Cactus Gray, sitting at a lender's yard outside Allentown, Pennsylvania. standard Badlands, no Sasquatch package, so 33s on the factory wheels. 58 photos. it had the factory steel bumper.

i bid 36,200. Badlands 2.7 four doors with similar miles were 42,000 to 45,000 on dealer lots in New England. i won it, wired the money, and it arrived about 330 miles later on a hauler in my driveway, delivery free since it was under 1,000 miles. the lot photos and inspection notes are on conawaysautosales.com, where you can scroll a listing and judge the photos for yourself.

i will post the honest parts after this weekend. there are two.

nice buy. two questions from somebody who lives in salt country too.

what are you doing about the underside before Vermont road salt gets to it? i do a wool wax or Fluid Film coat every November on my Grand Cherokee and it has made a real difference after four winters.

and how is the 2.7 compared to the 2.3? everybody says the 2.7 is the one to have, but i have never driven one in the snow.

first post, long time lurker since the forum opened. i am in Asheville and i have been looking at conaways listings for a few weeks, a Bronco or a 4Runner, and reading these threads like homework.

the thing that scares me is not seeing it in person. how did you know the photos were telling the truth? and are you going to lift it or put 35s on it? that is the other question i keep circling, what happens to the warranty and insurance if i do.

the factory steel bumper on the Badlands is winch ready, so when you buy one later the mounting is already there. the factory front tow hooks are rated recovery points. the rear, use a receiver shackle mount.

the winch thread on the trail board has the handout we did, including the "buy a snatch block and tree saver before a winch" part that came from you. good to see you in a rig to use it with.

the two honest parts, and some answers.

one key. the conaway's listing said one key and that is what came, so no complaint, i knew it. the Ford store in Rutland made me a spare for 310 dollars, cut and paired. that is the one expense i would have liked to avoid.

two, the fault. a few days in, the dash showed a sway bar disconnect fault and the front bar would not disconnect. i figured on a big bill. it turned out to be the electrical connector on the disconnect, green with corrosion, probably from sitting outside at the yard through a wet fall. wire brush, contact cleaner, dielectric grease, and it has worked fine since. zero dollars.

Vermont registration was simple, and you need an inspection within 15 days. it passed on the first try at a shop in Rutland. the purchase and use tax was the big check, 6 percent.

ohv guy: the underside got Fluid Film from a local shop the week it arrived, 140 dollars. the 2.7 in snow is great, lots of torque low and the 10 speed is smooth. i have not driven a 2.3 back to back.

thirty three: the photos were honest. paint and interior were exactly what the pictures showed, and the tread depth matched too. i would not lift it right away, read the warranty first. that is probably its own thread.

good thread. rule says numbers, and you gave most of them. put your all in number down in one line when you have it, so the people reading this next to ben's thread can compare a Bronco against a 4Runner.

thirty three did start that warranty and lift thread, by the way. it is on this board.

all in, as requested: bid 36,200, delivery 0, Vermont tax 2,172, registration and title about 120, second key 310, Fluid Film 140, inspection 40. comes out to 38,982.

first real wheeling was last weekend on a class 4 town road near Chittenden, the unmaintained kind with no winter plowing. 14 inches of snow, 4H, front bar disconnected and it worked every time. i went with two guys from work, both in Tacomas. the Bronco was the one that did not need a pull.

i would buy through conaway's again. i would also get two keys priced into my bid number next time.
