we are live. this place is for four wheel drive SUVs that actually leave the pavement now and then, or that somebody is planning to take off it. 4Runners, Wranglers, Broncos, Grand Cherokees, Defenders, the GX460 and anything else with a transfer case and a back seat. pickups are welcome to read along, there are bigger truck forums for the bed and payload questions.

there are three boards and each one carries a symbol off a ski area trail map, since half of you already know them from the lift line. 4x4 SUV talk is the green circle: the rig itself, what to buy, which trim, what fails at 120k. Trails, lifts and recovery is the blue square: tires, lifts, lockers, winches, permits and where you went last weekend. Buying and auctions got the black diamond, because spending thirty or forty grand on a used 4x4 is the run where people get hurt.

about me so you know who is deleting your spam. i ran a road grader for the forest service on the Black Hills for 26 years, mostly the gravel you are all driving on to get to the fun stuff, and i retired two springs ago. i have a 2009 JK Unlimited Rubicon with a lift i installed wrong once and right the second time.

house rules, the napkin edition: year, model, trim, lift and tire size go at the top of any question. buying threads include what you paid. nobody sells anything inside a thread. anybody on the payroll of a dealer, lender, shop or parts counter mentions it when it matters. no trail locations for anything closed, illegal or on private ground. and be decent to the Jeep people, they have suffered enough with the death wobble questions. the about page has the wordy edition.

new accounts go through my inbox until the bots lose interest. send me your rig and the county you wheel in. hank

made it in. Ouray, so the Alpine Loop and Imogene are my backyard in summer, and right now they are under four feet of snow and closed, which is why i have time to type.

request for the rules, hank. make people post their recovery points. i lead runs for a club out here and every season somebody shows up with a strap and nothing rated to hook it to. tie down loops on a 4Runner or the factory hooks on a Grand Cherokee look like recovery points from ten feet away and they are not all the same thing. a quick line in the sticky would save somebody a cracked windshield.

also good luck with the black diamond joke. somebody is going to read that literally.

recovery points went into the rules on the about page, nate, with your name on it so they yell at you and not me.

the counter says 63 accounts in two days. i figured on maybe twenty by christmas. somebody is linking us from somewhere, and whoever it is, thank you and please stop telling people i answer email fast.

it is november, so i expect three kinds of threads in here: snow runs, winter tires versus all terrains, and people shopping for a rig with their tax refund money already spent in their head. all three are fine. read the buying board before you send anybody a wire.
